Ok,, not,,, this is the famous " Grandma Gatewood " who was a great long distance hiker in the 60's and early 70's. ( 1887-1973 ) She did the whole AT in 1955 to become the first woman to hike the trail in one season. ( She raised 11 kids,, then divorced.. She did the AT several times and last hiked the AT in 1967. At age 71, she attempted the PCT, but age finally stopped her. She passed away at age 85 June 5th, 1973.. Title " Toughest Gal in Amercia "..

Reading this is alot like listening to drug ads on T.V. ( You know,, where the drug clears up your toe nail fungus , but may cause internal bleeds,, loss of vision,, heart failure,,,etc,kidney failure,,etc, etc,....

First Edition Of " Backpacking One Step At A Time " by Harvey Manning copyright 1972, and " Freedom Of The Hills " Third Edition " 1974 which I read and reread over and over. Learned more my early climbing ,knot etc. straight out of that book,, then bought the gear and just " Did It ". Self Taught On Repelling, Ice Axe Arrest, etc. and practiced,,,, lots,,,. Nice to reread these today with all the cool old " Retro Gear ",, stoves,tents, packs,etc.... I would still advice any outdoor hiker/climber to get a copy of each of these fine books. ( First Edition if you can find one! )
