Natives use to ride this race in Keller Wash. during Salmon Days for hundreds of years. When the Omaik Stampede Started in 1935, they wanted to add this event as it is sooooo wild!! The horses are all at least 5 years old so they have strong bones and are bread for this race. Even so, each year there is talk of differet groups of animal rights folks wanting to end this race in our " Milk Toast" world of today. To see the horses and riders " Fly" over this 225 foot drop at night is just amazing!!! Learnings to the natives hoops and yells is like something maybe only " Custer" heard on his last day... ( And Yes, he did have in coming........)
