Note heavy Kelty Pack, Wood Ice Axe, Heavy Boots and all Wool Clothing. Not much ultralight gear in 1977 and few people over 30 did a " Thru-hike" in old days. ( Don is Red Pack Was 25 years old at in 1977 making him one of the " Older Hikers" that year.
