Pack Of A "Thru-Hiker" 70's Style. ( April 1977)

Southern Cal. PCT

Big Kelty Serac with more weight in patches than most packs today have in weight. Big Packs, No Treking Poles, No Angel Trails, No Water Caches, No Internet Info, Only a guide book as big as the T.V. Guide. Half way into your trip , your rarely saw another thru-hiker if you weren't hiking with them. The people behind you didn't exsist, and you didn't exsist to the hikers in front of you. Very few " Female" thru-hikers in 70's or people of 25 years old in general. Someone over 30 was quite rare on a through hike back then. ( Sorry so blurring. No IS on my old Ricoh 35mm film camera!!)

Ricoh SLR, MF 50mm lens,Kodak Ektachrome 64

other sizes: small medium large auto

I carried a Kelty Serac on the PCT1976, and from 1974-1990. It is one of the greatest packs of the 1970s, ever! Here's two shots of mine..

OMG! I wouldn't be able to walk 50 feet with that on my back, let alone hike miles!
