We've been buying wooden handled ice axes on e-bay for the past five years. We now have about 15. Anybody ever seen any information on finding out who and when they were made based on the info on the metal head. (All seem to be made in Austria, Italy, Germany or Switzerland.)

I've got an axe like the one on the right. I purchased it at a military surplus store in the 80's, wonder how old it really is? I had a sweet little Svea 123 brass stove that I let go at a garage sale unfortunately. The old stuff was well built, but I do like my giga-power ultra-lite and compact stove now ; )
The middle axe looks like one of the laminated types that was popular for a while, before metal shafts took over. I have two stoves like your blue/red one ("Optimus 80"?): one I bought at REI in 1968, the other in 1978 at a garage sale for $.75. They both still work.
