My son approaches famed Chalet which was buit in 1931/32 at the head of the South Fork of the Quanalt River on the West side of the Olympics. It was built as a hunting lodge before Olympics became a park in 1938. Now the river is only 10 ft. for edge and will wash it away soon!
Yes, bottom level still open to public. This shot was taken in 2004. 40 years after my first trip there in 1974.

I have excellent vintage photos of the chalet/lodge from my fathers' childhood, 1950's-1960's. I've put off hiking to it and now I read this and am disappointed. They hiked to it often. They grew up in Raymond, WA, where I reside as well. Dad says the scenery is still worth the hike.
Not sure if it is Tina. They were close to losing it in 2004. What a waste! The slow hand of Government is ually to late. They will have to " Do A Study" on it first. By the time the study is over , the thing will be washed away. I National Park Service, the "Scrum" always floats to the top, left unstirred....... ( Edward Abbey, comments)

So is it still there? Sure looks like a beautiful placce to live. The B&W really sets the story. Great work.
