Great stuff Monte...nice variety of subjects...it is a joy to behold. I have an interest in old mining towns and frontier history, but I appriciate your passion for laying out the good with the almost good...your good stuff rules!

Monty, your the man! Ansel Adams with a flair for beards. That Pat looks like a keeper. We need to find out more about Marion Rose, the infamous rattlesnake man from Alta Lake. Last I heard (only legend) he was bitten
Seven times in one day and it hardly phased him.

Ever hear the story of these guys that climbed Mt. Rainer and one was breathing so hard that he sunburned his tongue? Or that both ended up looking like reverse racoons at sunburned guys wedding?

Thanks for your wonderful pictures. Very inspiring. We've been sending people your way from our humble little hiking website tmber.com
Woody 06-Jun-2011 18:52
The plant with the purple berries is a poke berry plant. Some people cook the leaves like turnip greens, but it has to be prepared right. Otherwise, it will make you sick. The berries are the favorite berry of the mockingbird in TX, but the "Bi-product" is like a MarksALot. Great pictures...Woody

MONTE DODGE!!! This is your old friend Missy Wood who surely hasn't forgotten you!! You were such a great friend to me when I was living in Olympia!! Your friendship meant more to me than I can possibly say!
I have some of my old car and grain elevator shots on my Facebook page. I LOVE your pictures!! I'm living in St. Peter, MN, close to the old Victorian house on a lake that I always talked about..

As always, Missy

I have a 1958 coleman lantern, army issue and still in the box with all of its contents. This thing is great! I am not interested in selling it, but I am dying to use it. Should I keep this gem in its current state? What is it worth?

thanks,
Jeremy

I seen on one of your posts that someone was looking for a morning glory northface tent. I am pretty sure I have one. If anyone is interested you can e-mail me at ravlmv@sbcglobal.net and I will get you pictures.

My name is Steve Wilson. My father is Thomas Woodrow Wilson, who was the son of Andrew Wilson, stone cutter and manager of Hercules Sandstone. It was nice to come across the picture of Grandpa in your gallery. I was at my parents home last night with a laptop and was sitting with my dad (age 92 ...sharp as a tack)..looking for old pictures of Tenino. He loved it. Thanks for all your great photos.

Hey Monte, Great Collection of "Vintage" stoves etc. I've been collecting & continue to use many of my 70's vintage and a few prior to then stoves and gear. Great reference collection, and pics. I'll have to take a more thorough gander now that I've "registered" and see some of your Rockie Mtn. Shots. I'm also a long time hiker of the Rockies, mostly Utah, CO, WY... but the High Mtns is where its best. Thanks for the post and pics...

Hello Monte

I found your pictures of the Entiat River Valley. I so enjoyed looking through these. My family hales from there. Parents from both sides of the family go back to the turn of the last century and some before. Anyway, wanted to let you know it was really fun to look through these. Not to mention you take beautiful photographs!

We've been collecting wooden-handled ice-axes on e-bay for the past five years. We now have about 15. All have markings, brands, countries, etc on metal axe portion, but there does not seem to be any info on the net or elsewhere about when, and made the axes. (Most are made in Switzerland, or Austria. Anyone seen any info old ice ax manufacturers.?

Hey Monte, Don't know if you remember, but I met you randomly on the PCT in the Northern Cascades in 06. Been checking your photo gallery out for a while. I'm also into photography and have a shitload of photos I'm increasingly having to organize. What's your thoughts on Pbase... Do you make any money on pics. Is it more of a hobby. I also am in the market for a new camera this Summer. Something small and powerful. What's the latest badass camera on the market these days. I have a nice Panasonic 7megp. camera now and I like Panasonics.

Amazing! I loved old Coleman equipment when we camped as a family from the 40s to 60s. Some of the stuff my parents used holds memories. 1)My dad starting up the 2 mantle lantern by keeping a wooden match in the "cleaner" as he lit it while quickly rotating the "flu" or whatever it was. 2)Mom baking a cake in the collapsible oven over the Coleman 2 burner...and Yes, I salvaged it from the family home when they passed on.
Thanks for the Memories!

Monte, the echoes of greatness eminate from your incredible photos. You are a true and solid fixture in the halls of the ancient ones; those who walked upon the path when it was but a thin unknown line on a map. Your smile is infectious and I wear it now, today, here, and forever.

I really enjoy your galleries. Washington State is beautiful. I worked for ISC Systems in the 80's and our corporate headquarters were in Spokane. I had the good fortune of seeing the beauty of Washington in all 4 seasons. My job sent me to Spokane about 3 months per year. On weekends a group of us would go to Mt. Spokane, Weenachee, Ross Lake, Cascades, Canada. I would jump on highway 2 and just go... I loved it. I could easily make Washington my home.

After all these years of talking to Mark and Barbi about you, it was really great to actually meet you in person at your mom and dad's "50th ann" party (the photo DVD was great!). I have been wandering through your galleries and getting swept away by the beauty you have captured with your lenses. Your family photos are touching, your nature shots are simply stunning, and, having heard about your PCT adventure for the last 20 years, it was very cool to be able to get the visuals to bring all the stories together. Thanks for sharing! Maybe we can see you again when we actually have time to chat. Take care, and we'll watch for future galleries to be posted. Until then, be well--Kathy Lycan

Hi Monte--Thanks for sharing your comment in my gallery. I didn't realize we were neighbors. Speaking of that--is Wacanda Pass near us anyplace? I love that old building and would kill to explore it someday. I also need to agree about your "fake film" comments. I still shoot the old wooden film cameras and am afraid someday soon I may be forced to go total digital.

By the way--I wish we could vote on "profile comments"--I didn't read yours the first time but your comment about yourself is the best.

Keep it up and if you are ever in the Spokane area looking for something to shoot give me a holler--not sure why as I usually leave this place to shoot but you never know.
Take care.

Monte,
Thanks for the nice comment.
I've been looking at your great shots of the northwest and earmarked your galleries for further looks. I love the train station at night as well a slew of others.
Great work, keep 'm comming.

The apple pictures are wonderful as are all the others
in that winter wonderland of Eastern Washington. Enjoyed
all the street scenes as well.

Monte, thank you for viewing and commmenting on several of my photos. I enjoyed viewing several of your galleries. You have some excellent photos. I always like the find other people here on pbase who are from Washington State.

I have been looking at Pbase photos for a couple years now, not a member yet. Your photos are the best. Historical and interesting. I love the outdoors.

These Pictures are wonderful. One of my favorites is “BOOTS ON FENCE”. I think you’re moving up in the ranks. Now you must at least 13,520. Personally I think you should be ranked it the top 10. I love you.

Doodle,
My favorite picture is the winter wonderland with the orange accents. I'm a big fan of your work. He He. Digital photography class is going well. We are doing the usual: black and white, blur, cut and paste, and touch ups. I hope you are having fun in wenatche. I had a question. How fast does a train go? I love you lots and lots.

Monte,
Your pictures are very cool. I really love the Bigfoot one, thank god you don't have any of me during that time. I forwarded them on to Mom & Carl also.
Do you ever come down this part of California? If so you better drop by and see everybody!
Greg "the other moron" Hummel 08-Nov-2005 21:16
What a goddamn moron! Don't you have anything better to do than trapse around taking beautiful pictures of beautiful areas and then shoving them down our little throats, those of us stuck in smog ridden areas of the U.S.!!
