Description: Leafless stalks with several red-spotted, orange, lily-like flowers growing from narrow, flat, sword-like leaves in fan-shaped clusters.
Flowers: 1 1/2-2" (4-5 cm) wide; petal-like parts 6, widely spreading; lasting only 1 day.
Leaves: 12-18" (30-45 cm) long, about 1" (2.5 cm) wide.
Fruit: Capsule, splitting open to reveal a blackberry-like cluster of shiny black seeds.
Height: 1 1/2-4' (45-120 cm.)
This handsome Chinese introduction has escaped from cultivation. Several flowers usually bloom at one time.
The blackberry-like seed cluster, which is seen when the capsule breaks open, accounts for the common name.
