Over the south door are a row of statues of saints.
These include (l to r): St. Ambrose, St. Gregory, St. Chrysostom, St. Athanasius and St. Basil. St. Augustine and St. Jerome are out of the photo, to the left.
The Lichfield Cathedral is covered with statuary, most being replaced since the iconoclasm of the English reformation.
The site, as a religious center, dates back to 700AD. Parts of the present cathedral were constructed in the 13th Century.
