At a farmers' market in Kona, Hawaii, we encountered a fruit we didn't know existed: cherimoya. The texture of the flesh is somewhere between a just-ripe pear and an apple, and the taste is hard to describe, but delicious. You cannot cut a neat slice of cherimoya, because the knife will inevitably encounter one of the extremely hard (poisonous) seeds, which are distributed randomly throughout the flesh.
