Tokina 10-17 f3.5- f4.5 AT-X 107 DX without hood

I had the hood professionally removed by http://www.protechrepairs.co.uk/

This now means that you can't use the Tokina lens hood as it isn't deep enough. I'll need to source an alternative.

The inner diameter of the hood is 60mm and 12mm deep. You'd ideally want 20mm of depth to clear the front element.

The external diameter of the focus ring is 68mm.

What I did to prevent the inside of the lens cap touching the curve of the front element, because after cutting the hood, it was seating deeper on the lens: I cut a thin strip of hard rubber and glued it to the inside outer ring of the lens cap - by its contact with the front edge of the inner barrel of the lens, before contact with the front element, it would prevent the cap from touching the front element.

Congratulations. I'm incredibly proud of you! Are you talking about the lens cap? Because you probably don't need a hood. If the problem is the lens cap, I'm sure it's nothing compared to the problem of removing the hood.
