Thrice Buried

Galveston Island, Texas

Blocked door to the Willis vault in the old Episcopal cemetery.
After the devastating 1900 Hurricane, the island was raised and a sea wall was constructed.
During the grade raising of 1904-1910 many of the monuments and vaults were elevated although the graves were undisturbed. Another grade raising in the cemetery was made in 1925.
Some of the larger vaults were too expensive or fragile to raise.

eerily attractive, and well portrayed from the angled POV...intriguing just how high maintenance this cemetery has been..
