Blooming Ocotillo

Big Bend National Park, Texas

In the Badlands, the Ocotillo blooms were flying like little red pennants along the roadside.

Ocotillo branches can reach heights up to 20-feet and live up to 60 years. Studies also indicate some could possibly be over 100 years in age.
Slender clusters of bright red orange, tubular flowers form at the ends of the stalks in the Spring and Fall.

Nice shot of this blooming Ocotillo and surrounding landscape. "V"
Every time I see these I think of the town of Ocotillo, CA, 80 miles east of here. One of the most earthquake prone areas I know of.

good to have a bit more colour here...cool how the shadows put the scene more in relief..

Those red flowers look so beautiful in that arid environment! V.
