Stand Your Ground

Big Bend Ranch S.P. Texas

This Javelina didn't run away like the rest in his herd. Instead, he stood his ground so the others could escape first.
You can see a smaller Javelina going off into the bushes on the right.

The collared peccary (Tayassu tajacu), commonly known as the javelina, is found as far south as Argentina and as far north as Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.
Collared peccaries are in the even-toed, hoofed mammal order of Artiodactyla. Javelina are mistaken for pigs, but they are in a different family than pigs.
Javelinas drink water when it can be found, but it is not essential if succulents are available.
Succulent prickly pear pads make it possible for javelinas to survive until rainfall provides additional new annual food plants and water sources.

Never heard of a Javelina and obviously never heard of one them standing rear guard. Best not to mess with this guy ... v

a brave capture Lynn...the rearguard individual could well be a danger if feeling threatened..
