2424 Avenue L

Galveston Island TX ~ Silk Stocking District

1883 Adolph and Regina Frenkel House, 2424 Avenue L
This Victorian house is one of three identical triplets built in 1883 by the Galveston Real Estate and Loan Association as investment properties.
Bavarian immigrant Adolph Frenkel purchased his Victorian house in 1884.
A year later he married Regina Marx and the couple added two rooms to the rear of the property and installed electric lights, which had recently become available in Galveston.

How beautiful these old houses - there is no time nowadays for lovely details, everything has to be done quickly...
Wonderful photograph so nicely presented, Lynn!

the place must have been an instant classic...Silk Stocking District sounds interesting...perhaps a significant local industry, or a reference to the affluent having a leg up here..
