Feet of Water

First Colony, Sugar Land Texas

There was a lull in the storm today, so Tom and I went out to see how the neighborhood looks. This is the lake next to my office.
Out of it's banks and up the grass to the sidewalk, the lake is doing it's job, collecting water away from the homes and streets.
We've had 24 inches of rain so far and now we are predicted to get another 15 to 25 inches in the next two days.
Our neighbor city, Houston is flooded. They've been rescuing people all day long. The freeways are closed and flooded out.
Sugar Land was built with flooding in mind and we have a complex series of pumps, bayous, levees and detention lakes to handle water flow.
We pay a "Levee Tax" to keep it maintained and so far it has done well.
But we can't be too relaxed about anything when it comes to Mother Nature.

Amazing. 24 inches of rain is just ridiculous in that time frame. And doubling that for the total from Harvey just leaves me speechless.

WOW! I can't take my eyes off the news. Praying that the storm eases up and Houston doesn't experience further damage. But, I don't think that's realistic right now. Stay safe Lynn & Tom! V

there is clearly some dry land here so your defense system must be working...hopefully another two feet of rainwater won't prove too much...fine shot here too..

Glad your city had the foresight to fund defences.

Oh my, but sounds like your town is prepared for this kind of thing. Such a disaster in Houston, hard to believe. V.

Despite the circumstances, this is an excellent image. Good that your city was thinking ahead and did things the right way. No doubt that is paying off big time now. Beat of luck weathering the rest of the storm. ~BV~
