June 18

Sugar Land, Texas

We had a bad day at the office.
One of Gus's parents was electrocuted on the power pole in our Park.
You can see it wedged in the bracket on the right of the pole.
The shock knocked out the power to the entire area, including our office, both pools and the traffic signals.
Since male and female Black Vultures are identical, we couldn't tell if it was Mom or Dad.
These vultures mate for life. How sad. Our hope is that the remaining parent will continue to feed Gus until he's ready to migrate.
Gus was on the roof nearby when this happened.

That is so sad. I am very sorry to hear that. I hope Gus is OK.

So sorry to learn this. You would think that the power company would not have high voltage exposed like that. Not only dangerous to wildlife, but it can start fires and knock out power to places and people that depend on it. Thankfully all of our utilities are underground.

I am sure this is devastating to a bird that mates for life!!
