Replete
by Gina Matticchio
Can we can hold it all, all that two lives contain
Boughs and twigs, squall and soil
Swells and calm, blue and gray?
I’m not fragile, easily blown off course
But stubborn in my sense of truth
Fiercely clasping my lover close
I cannot imagine another soul
To love me pure and love me true.
For all we’ll have and all we’ll lose
I will withstand impassioned storms
And the inevitable pointed arrows flight.
If I can hold your heart in mine
Entwined with you like fibrous pith
I’ll gladly float or fight, be still or sway
Feel sated, blessed and safely held
Encircled in your arms each night.
