Homer

Today was to have been a very special day, but alas, the best laid plans of mice & men. We woke up very early at 4 am, prepared an early breakfast and gathered all of the things we would need to go on a very special bear viewing trip over to Katmai with Hallo Bay. The cab came at 6:00, just as ordered, we arrived right on time at 6:15 at the hangar. Dave, the conservation guide who was going to take us over, met us just as we were getting out of the cab. As soon as he said 'hold the cab' to the driver, we knew the mission had been scrubbed. Sure enough, the pilot had said we could not fly, it was too socked in.
Catching myself before the tears in the eyes and the lump in the throat came, we managed to say we understood, we had a son who was a pilot and knew how important the weather was.
Jim, as his usual, put his arms around me and said 'no problem, we'll just have to come back again.'
And all was not lost, Homer was a fun place to hang around and enjoy, mom and I went quilt shopping and bought some great material to make an Alaskan quilt someday!
The bears will still be there the next time we visit Alaska....
Coming back past the airport ater, it was still pretty socked in.

The weather continued to be very moody though - probably no flying tomorrow either!
