Maasai Mara, May 26th - Afternoon Game Run

After a wonderful lunch back at Little Governor's Camp, we hiked down the steps, crossed the river, hiked back up the steps and went on a lion-packed game run.
What we saw on this run:
baboon, elephant, cape buffalo, monitor lizard, crowned crane, hippo, banded mongoose (so much fun to watch!), African jicana, saddle bill stork, pygmy kingfisher, Grants gazelle, impala, baboon, mongoose and the Marsh Pride - a whole pile of lions, about 15 of them!

The cape buffalo in the Mara like to go for mud baths.... look close, there is a tiny frog on his back

A hippo asleep in the water. They have to spend most of their time in the water. otherwise they will get sunburnt.

Banded mongoose. This was our first real up close sighting of a mongoose.

The banded mongoose reminded me of cats, but surprisingly they belong in the dog family.

And behind her was the rest of the pride - we think about 14 of them.

Part of the Marsh Pride, it was getting late, but we just had to stay and watch them!

I count twelve lions here. Off on another spot is the lioness who is by herself and the male lion.
