This strange looking bird is not an owl but a Tawny Frogmouth. It is unusual to see one on the ground and awake during the day. Normally they sit in trees looking like a dead branch and believe me they do look like dead branches. So a rare shot captured here I think. It was on the edge of a gravel road near the Turon Gates. It became nervous of me and flew vertically up (like a helicopter) into the top of a tree.
