Five Blow Flies

The red star shaped thingo is a Starfish Fungus (Aseroe rubra). To spread its spores it emits a foul smell akin to rotting meat that attracts flies. Which then carry the spores far and wide. If you look you will see 5 blow flies clustered around and on the fungus. Perhaps its not as nice as perfume but each to its own, and it works.

Well done, Lyle. You've done what I keep promising myself I'll do ie get the camera out when these fungi appear.
