Karnak temples were constructed from the beginning of the Middle Kingdom to the Greek — Roman Kingdom. Every king during these periods contributed in the construction of this temple. Karnak Temple has three main sacred areas that honor three god: Amun, the goddess Mut, and Khonsu, were members of the sacred family known as the Theban Triad. Karnak was built, added to, dismantled, restored, enlarged and decorated during its colorful history of over 1500 years. At certain points in Egyptian history, this temple was the most important in all of Egypt.

The temple is huge, I came around 8am and left just before 11am. It's perfectly OK to visit without a guide as you can easily stand beside groups of tourists and listen to their guides ;p
