I've to follow a convoy to get to Abydos and Dendara. There are 2 convoys a day, 8am and 2pm. For the 2pm one you can only get to Dendara. Abydos is 3 hours drive from Luxor.

I have never been in a convoy, expecially one that led by armed police trucks! Along the way, there are numerous numbers of checkpoints. The scenes along the way were interesting, with children waving goodbyes to the convoys, farmers busy harvesting (mainly sugarcanes) etc...

I guess becos of the inflexibility with the convoys, there weren't that many tourists. To be honest, these convoys were a pain... much time was wasted sitting in the car waiting for next convoy to start...
