Wow. Wonderful tones and nice detail in the brick. Did you get to the top?

I couldn't help wondering about the view on the other side, to where the people are looking at...

Great image. The people really show the scale of the building.

imagine lugging all those stones up there. I thought it might be the meeting place of the gammy leg society.

Beautiful against that dramatic sky. The two people standing there make this a special image.

Love the composition and the black and white treatment. It was probably built as a place to observe photographers from ;-)

Great companion/contrast to yesterday's shot (...and, dare I say it, beautifully observed).

I have never heard of this place Stu, looks like a great place to go to blow away the cobwebs...

The people look like they're standing on the edge of the world and what a wonderful old building. Even if it didn't serve any purpose. Great capture.

Di, I've often wondered the same thing myself! I really have no idea. I believe the structure was built during the 19th century, so it has no military significance, and there is no evidence of there ever having been a telescope inside it. I think it may just have been a folly with no real purpose whatsoever.

Great comp with the people next to the structure. What was it an observatory for...dare I ask for fear of sounding stupid?

I was wondering earlier what I was seeing just over the flowing hill.
