Recovering some happy memories

4 October 2005

523.
I watched Kingdom of Heaven this afternoon. What a big yawn that was. Methinks Ridley Scott may have lost something since Gladiator (I wasn't too impressed with Black Hawk Down either, now that I come to think of it). Anyway, Orlando Bloom pouted and preened, and looked almost as badly miscast as Colin Farrell and Angelina Jolie in Alexander. The Scottish actor from Braveheart who played the evil Knight Templar was good, though. Now to the image. This is a model of the Expo 98 mascot, Gil. I brought it back from Portugal for Liam in 1996, when he was barely four-years old. He used to play with it while he was in the bath, and called him 'Onda Rapaz' (Wave Boy) as he dropped him in the water while shouting 'Epá, fogo pá!', which means something like 'Oh, my goodness' (only not quite so polite). I found Onda Rapaz in the garden while we were building the driveway. I have decided to keep him.

Something for footie fans!

Enjoyed a bit of classic self-preserved British cinema last year. And not a lot of people know that.

Onda does look like he's been tossed around the bathwater a few times. He makes an excellent picture though, love the bg too!

Love the portrait quality of the keepsake. :) Have to disagree about Jolie's casting in Alexander. She was definitely one of the bright spots for me.

A childhood toy rescued from obscurity. Funny story about Liam playing with it. And he does look like he got a lot of use. Congrats on the added income.

I thought you were back on the medicine with this imagine. Have you been dancing and singing "If I Were a Rich Man...." all day.

Congrats on the windfall Stu. Whenever it arrives.
Gil is a worthy piece to save.

He's better looking than some toys I've seen of late. One day your grandchildren will be sitting there playing with this & asking " Grandpa, how did you get so rich ?"

Nice finding lost bits.
When I was freelancing I found on a number of occasions when clients came back too quickly it's because I was too cheap and the work was OK.
Don't mean to dampen your spirits.
If they don't come back, you dont whether it's the price or the quality.
Ain't life a bitch.

Onda Rapaz looks like an interesting character.
