Isle of Bute Stu

The most photographed boat on Pbase

21 August 2005

479.
Before you ask: no, I didn't go to Bute this weekend. I made the decision earlier in the week to stay in Dundee because the journey to the Bute Games would have clashed with the first Old Firm derby of the season, and since I have already paid my over-priced subscription to Setanta in order to see some Celtic games this season, I thought that football viewing ought to take precedence over excursioning. Given the result of the match, I'm glad that I decided not to go down to Rothesay - you see, almost all of my family, including my brother, sister, nephew and two neices are all R*****s supporters. The (all too) few sensible Celtic supporting relatives that I do have are only half-hearted about football, and don't really count when faced with my siblings and their offsprings. Anyway... hands up who didn't take a photograph today! Guilty as charged, M'lud. I have spent almost the whole day messing about with my computer, getting things ready for a busy week on the translating, writing and editing front, and also sorting out pictures for printing (can you guess what date I'm up to?). I came across this picture of Pbase's most photographed wreck, and thought to myself that it would make a good PaD for three reasons. Firstly, I processed it today; secondly, had I not decided to stay in Dundee to watch the football, I would almost certainly have been on Bute and photographed the wreck anyway; and thirdly... actually, there are only two reasons. But damn good ones, even if I do say so myself.

Last year I was where I ought to have been yesterday

But never the same twice. A book I'm reading recommends photographing the light rather than the place in which case it is never a repeat. A very fine addition to the collection.

Lovely as always. My friends are staying up on the island at the moment, so I'm looking forwards to seeing their 'snaps' of this boat too!

Yes, I do see this wreck over and over, but I still find it so fascinating. This is great in B&W.

Voteable was just incorporated into the Oxford dictionary.
petesie22-Aug-2005 02:02
I'll accept your reasoning since it is such an outstanding, voteable (is there such a word as voteable?) image.
Coleen Perilloux Landry22-Aug-2005 01:53
This is a great shot. Makes me wonder why it does not topple.
Faye White22-Aug-2005 01:51

Always looks good no matter what the conditions. You guys need a " save the wreck " campaign.

This is like a scene from the movies. Really awesome toning for this image. I vote, the sky is spectacular.
