Day four hundred and fifty of my PaD, so I really ought to make an effort... hadn't I? I don't know if I have the energy after the day I've just had. My doctor told me I needed exercise, but that I should avoid heavy lifting and carrying. Now I know why I was told this. I could have just waited until we agreed on a builder to complete the access, but that could take forever to arrange at this time of year (it's the local holiday fortnight - the Dundee Trades - when almost every tradesman is off to bake on the sands of the Spanish Costas and other such places). I thought that I would do some work, just to get it started. Now I wish I hadn't bothered, for my leg is suffering and I also twisted my back lifting bags of gravel out of the car's boot (trunk to the colonials). I also laid some slabs - although I didn't do quite as well as I may have hoped, since one of them has already split after taking the car's weight a sum total of four times. Back to the DIY store for a new slab and another bag of sand. Liam decided to help, and a good assistant he was too - he did the heavy lifting by carrying and positioning the slabs, opening the gravel sacks and spreading and levelling the stones. Later in the afternoon, with it in the garden for the first time ever, Liam decided that he wanted to wash the car (for a fee, obviously). He actually did a good job, and now is talking about going around the neighbours asking to wash theirs. We shall see how long this fad will last - probably no longer than the good weather does, I suspect. I suppose I should just make the most of the opportunity while it is there!
