Livid, I am

I don't know whether the developer is being deliberately awkward or whether the person they got to cut the gap in the fence is just plain stupid. We have agreed to pay a not inconsiderable sum of money to the developer for vehicular access to our house. All they have to do in exchange for the money is let us have access over their road, open a gap in the fence and reinstate all of the damage they caused to our garden when they originally built the fence last September. They have constantly put hurdles in front of us, and for each one we have leapt, there has been another two or three to replace it. The last time we spoke, they said that they would do everything as soon as we say the word. We said the word, only to receive a letter from their lawyer (whose bill we are paying) saying that they will not do anything until we have arranged to have gates erected. We have arranged to have the gates erected, and the ironmonger arrives tomorrow morning to do it. I called the developer to let them know, and to give them a chance to arrange for their part of the work to be done beforehand. They said they would come today. At 3pm there was still no sign of anyone, so I called. They said that someone would be there early tomorrow morning. Linda came home from work at 8pm and noticed that a gap had been cut in the fence. They had come, without telling us, and cut the gap in the wrong place and, moreover, had made the gap too narrow. They have not filled in the trench that they left in September, so there is absolutely no way (even assuming our car could bend in the middle) that it could bridge the gap. I am absolutely furious... can you tell? I think we will be instructing our lawyer to withhold a substantial part of the payment. I just wonder why they are being so awkward about it all - afterall, it's all profit to them.

Let me guess, the other part of this is embedded in the workman's head?

I don't know what this is but I really like the sheen and texture. Take a deep breath. Sounds very frustrating and now they have to repair more damage when they haven't even started on the original destruction.

Pepe's right. Unless you're there to show them every step of the way they just don't get it--just plain stupid. But, I guess the poor workmen can't be blamed; it's the supervisors.
