Mr Blue Sky

8 July 2005

435.
Singalong with me... Sun is shining in the sky, there ain't a cloud in sight... Glorious sunshine streamed in the window and into the bedroom this morning. A chink in the curtains was enough to make me open my half-asleep eyes, and once the sun had hit my retina, my ears began picking up the sound of the dawn chorus. It is summer, it was 5am, the sun was already half way across the sky, the birds were singing (boy were they singing), and I was awake. Nothing for it but head down to see if Mizzie was ready to come in yet (she's taken to staying out at night). She was. I duly fed her, then myself, then sat down with a cup of coffee to watch the news before making Linda's breakfast for her (I put the bread in the toaster and then spread it with Flora). Liam was out for the count - he had been at a sleepover the night before, and hadn't slept a wink (it's what they do). He had some catching up to do. I took Linda to her office, then headed back into town to take the car to see Deke, who was going to give it a much needed new gearbox to go with its recently replaced valves and timing belt. I meandered back home, taking my time on account of my gammy leg, hot weather and photo opportunities - oh, and a coffee and quick read of the sports pages. I eventually limped into the house at 11am, and found Liam hard at play on his PC. I tried to convince him to make the best of the nice weather and go out into the garden. He wasn't having it, claiming that he wasn't feeling well. Rather than get into a battle, I just shrugged my shoulders, made him a panchetta sandwich and settled down myself to read the rest of the newspaper. Aware of my bad leg, Deke sent his son (also a mechanic) over with my repaired car. We dropped him off at the garage, paid Deke for his troubles, then went to pick Linda up from her office. The blacksmith came up to measure up for our new driveway gates and to give us a quote for 6-foot high wrought iron gates and posts, which we accepted. He will come and install them on Thursday - so we'll have to get the developer out before then to remove the fence panel and level out the ground. This time next week, and we will have a posh new driveway - we will also be a few thousand pounds poorer. Ah well, never mind, at least it's warm and sunny! Mr Blue Sky, Please tell us why, You had to hide away for so long, Where did we go wrong...!

Liam didn't want to go out last year either

ELO - one of my mother-in-law's favourites! I like how the vapour trail's mirrored by the lense flare.

Nothing like a sunny sky and singing birds to brighten one's spirit. I like that you chose b/w to illustrate it. Like desaturated flowers, it somehow says more.

What catches my eye right of the bat is that wonderful lens flare... right beside the stack. This works really well in B&W

I was just singing this song to myself the other day and wondering who sang it. At first I thought the Beatles, but quickly realized it wasn't. Electric Light Orchestra is what I settled on.
