Hooray! It was hot today... summer has returned! To celebrate this momentous event we all piled into the car in a carefree manner, opened the sunroof and all the windows and set off on a magical mystery tour of the Angus countryside. We had no real destination in mind, and decided to go wherever our fancy took us. Our first stop was the village of Tealing, where I wanted to stop and see the 17th CENTURY DOVECOT and 3rd century souterrain. Soon tiring of the excitement of old stones, we drove deeper into the country, crossing the Sidlaws and into Denoon Glen past the 5th century Pictish hill fortress on Denoon Hill (the hill at the top right hand corner of the photo). We stopped for a while to enjoy the sun, and Liam and I went into the adjoining field to chase rabbits and take photos from a rock outcrop that was a rabbit metropolis. After our brief halt, we followed the road, and it took us to Glamis (pron. Glamz), where Glamis Castle, the birthplace and ancestral home of the late departed Queen Mother, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, is situated. We wandered around the grounds wondering why they needed so much land, and who gave them it in the first place. After a few hours we decided that we couldn't afford to buy it, and, anyway, the winter heating bill alone would bankrupt a small country. So we repaired to the local tavern for some light refreshments in the beer garden (I had mineral water) before coming home for our supper. CLICK HERE to see map of this location. It was difficult deciding which photo should be my PaD. This one just shaded it, because it was where Liam and I chased the rabbits. CLICK HERE if you want to see the other contender.
