No matter how hard I try, I can never manage to keep my study tidy for any length of time. The mess often gets me down and sometimes acts as a deterrent from doing anything productive - despite having a great deal of work to be getting on with. Every now and again I have a blitz (usually as a deadline approaches) and spend an entire day moving things from one spot to the other. I have even been known to actually throw some things out and shred others. I am usually pleased with myself after these events, and spend the next few days filing things away in their proper place. It never lasts very long, however, and usually within the fortnight I'm back to trying to clear the chaos of notes, scraps of paper, old envelopes, pencils, paper clips and general detritus just to make space for something that will, in all probability, be the day's addition to tomorrow's mess. The solution? A bigger desk and another filing cabinet - at least that will give more surface area for the junk.
