Drink Dr.Pepper 3 times a day. This sign has been in downtown Roanoke, VA since I can remember, and probably since my parents can remember for that matter. I remember once when I was young that the city was going to take the sign down and the community had a fit about it. So it still stands today.
This was a pretty tough shot to get to come out right. To get the vertical lines not to be blown out I had to underexpose. To get the metal supports of the sign to show up I needed a long exposure which overexposed the sign and blew out the vertical lines. So I had a great idea since I was shooting this on a tripod. I shot two images one underexposed and one overexposed. Then in Photoshop I layered the overexposed shot overtop of the underexposed and set that layer to about 50% Opacity. This retained the proper exposure of the brightest part of the sign and also brought out the metal supports that were not visible when the bight sign was properly exposed.
I was proud of myself for comming up with this idea, never tried it before. Wooohooo!
