So La Manga.. is a 22km long sand strip, no more than 1500 meters wide, mostly substantially narrower. Except for a few small openings, its parting the salty lake Mar Menor (some 180 km2) from the Mediterranean. Until 1966 there were nothing cept for the small fishing village of Cabo de Palos at the root op the strip - then the first hotel opened. And today there is nothing but hotels and turist accomodations. Really a true catastrophy for the eyes. But concentrate on the sun, the sea to both sides of La Manga, and the surprisingly friendly locals, and things will brighten up.
