Historic Rugby is Victorian England in the Tennessee Cumberlands. (from brochure) In 1880, Rugby's British founder called it a lovely corner of God's earth. The world watched as famous British author, statesman and social reformer Thomas Hughes dedicated America's Rugby. It was to be a cooperative, class-free community where Britain's younger sons of gentry and artisans, tradesmen and farming families from Britain and America, could build new lives through agriculture and high Christian Principles. Rugby today is a heritage treasure, listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1972. In a rugged river gorge setting, little changed by modern technology, this would-be Utopia survives. Some 18 Victorian buildings remain along wooded lanes. Visit www.historicrugby.org

Lucy,
I enjoyed the tour of this interesting place. I particularly enjoyed the interiors, espedcially the old library. Your nice photos remind me of some of the work I've been doing at Historic Sites in Texas.
