This was 1978 (ish). There was also a bad flood in the 50's

When was the flood? I am researching my Grandmother, who grew up in Sheerness (born 1922) and was married there (1944). it seems like all the family worked in the docks

Here Here! Wasn't born there, but was bought up on the island. Means more to me now than it did then I have to say.

we lived in sheerness at that time and we were flooded. we had to be taken out of the house by boat and people took us in until the water receeded from our home. the people of sheppey were amazing in the way they rallied to help those of us who were forced from our homes. I now live in Canada but return to Sheerness almost every year. Its sad to hear the comments of some people who have nothing good to say about the Island. My memories are of caring people,with a sense of community and a love of Sheppey.
