Yes, I remember Mr. Bishops very well. I remember the time he organised a bus trip for the kids up to London.

I used to go to Alexandra School, lived in a Jefferson as well. Yes Mr Reed shop was smelly, do any of you remember ?Mr Bishops corner grocery shop?

I went to Alexandra infants school from 1955 - 57 and then on to the Holy Trinity school in Sheerness. I remember the shop as well but I don't remember any smell. I took some "play" money from school one day and tried to spend it in there. Didn't I get into big trouble? I only ever tried that once but the memory has stayed with me. Emigrated to Australia in 1962 with my parents (Dorothy & Ernest Duff, Susan Duff, Stewart, Brenda, David, June, Dorothy).

Maggie,
Thanks for reminding me of Reed's shop. He was a funny little old guy if I remember right. I was only little then, and living in Jefferson Rd. My parents used to say he had everything in the world in that shop. I do remember the smell.

I was also at Alexandra school, Mrs Watson was my teacher in the late 50s. I also recall the sweet shop with the strong odour!!!. not as bad as "REEDYS" in richmond st, that smelled of CATS PEE.

Both sets of my grandparents lived here. Et 95 were my mother (Pam Newbury nee Austin) her sister Pat and her parents Bert and Flossie Austin. At 73 (?) were my Dad (Ken Newbury) and his parents Bill and Flo Newbury and his sister Pat and brothers Bill and Terry. All now sadly gone except my Dad Ken who lives in St Georges Ave now and Terry, Bill and Pat (fathers sister). Spent a lot of my early childhood with my Nan and Grandad at 95. There was a little 'front room' sweet shop on the school side of the road quite near it. It was run by a little old lady who I can see in my mind now and even smell the very strong distinct odour of the shop. Whenever I visit the Island I have to walk down the road.

That must be Alexandra Road school on the left. I went there from 1954 to 56 (approx)

Ah! You spotted my deliberate mistake, well done.

I put them in now and again to see if anyone spots them, ....... honest. ;)
