From 1913 there are many articles regarding Sheerness Docks in the local paper The Sheerness Times. Phrases such as the "cradle of seaplane aviation" indicate the importance of Sheerness in Naval Aviation.

There are a number of seaplane related stories in the Sheerness Times in 1916 one of note is the air raid on Sheerness WW1
In October 1916 an enemy sea plane dropped 4 bombs on Sheerness. 3 Landed in the harbour, the 4th landed near the station damaging property and several railway carriages. The hostile plane was shot down by Naval aircraft.

According to the late Henry Allingham's obituaries he was posted to Sheerness at about this time to work on seaplaanes. Could he have worked on this???
