Sheppey Queen

Thanks to Alexandra Whittall for the picture.

Some info: "i am sending you a photo of the sheppey queen. i know a good friend of mine
has been in touch with you already... this photo does not show the name, but
many people will recognise her i am sure. i will try and procure another
photo that is with name and clearer.

i am really keen to track down stories and leads about the sheppey queen.

i know that she was built by the sittingbourne boat building company in
1946... some say she was the art/harty ferry from the isle of sheppey...

i have also recently been sent a photograph of her on the river clyde in the
50s...carrying some 70 people.

i also know that in the early 70's she was the ferry that took workers to
and from the ford factory at dagenham...

i would love to know what the people out there know.... i am thinking of
trying to put a photograph in the newspaper in the area of sheppey and
sittingbourne..

thank you for any links that you may have... i am sure that there will be
photographs, and articles and stories about her, just need to follow the
trail!

by the way, i am the owner of the sheppey queen... i am hoping by next year,
to have found some replacement engines for her, and maybe sail her down to
sheppey.... do you know of any funding connected with the heritage of the
island?"

Looking at the photo in the Sheerness Beach section, this is the "Silver Queen".

I have a postcard of a boat leaving Southend for Sheppey which had been previously identified as the My Queen which also worked from Southend (and is now at Exmouth). However, seeing the image above it might be the Sheppey Queen. Can anyone identify?http://simplonpc.co.uk/Southend2.html#anchor753309

I am building a series of pages on Thames excursion boats, but have no other images of Sheppey Queen. I am currentlt preparing a page on the Southend Motor Navigation Company, which was the premier operator of smaller boats in the 1930s.

I agree with the above comments ; the Sheppey Queen and the Silver Star, were, during the late 50's early 60's, open boats that ran trips from Sheerness beach. A guy who used to crew was a chap called Mr Payne, lived in Invicta Road.

I also rode on the sheppey queen in the late fifties early sixties and it was an open pleasure boat on Sheerness beach. It ran trips as did the skylark around the wreck & the dockyard

Hi, If this is the same sheppey queen that used to be a pleasure boat at Sheerness beach then she has changed a lot. I rode on her, and the Silver Star, regularly in the 50s and 60s. She was open in those days with no superstructure apart from a steering position and engine box amidships, and no portholes. She only had a single engine and a single mast forward. If you look at the photo of the Silver Star on the beach on this website you will get the picture, they were almost identical.

It's wonderful to here that the Sheppey Queen is being so lovingly cared for. could you please inform us all how long you have owned the vessel, and was she brought from somebody from the island. The reason for my question is, that I am under the impression that the Sheppey Queen used to belong to my grandfathers father.

I remember a small white ferry boat with a squat yellow funnel which was operated by Fergusons' Ferries at Kilmun Argyllshire on the Holy Loch. She used to be used for special charter cruises and for the trip across to Gourock which was a little too rough on occasions for the other ferries run by the same company.Shje was called the Sheppey Queen. Then one summer she wasn't there any more and I have often wondered what happened to her. I am dlighted if she is still being looked after. I am an anorak who likes info about anything nautical to do with the Clyde estuary during the 50s and 60's when I lived in Strone on the Holy Loch
