John Griffiths 1924

John James Griffiths, (Shipwright, then Photographer and Stationer) b.1871, d.1949. He had 6 sisters, and 3 baby brothers who died near birth.
His father James Griffiths, (1834 - 1910) was a dockyard pensioner, who retired early through accident, living at 18 Unity Street, later re-numbered 68. James bought the Stationer's Shop at 28 Alma Rd. They also owned 30 Alma Rd.
John married Daisy Spurge in November 1899 and took over the shop, having learnt the photographic art from his wife's nephew, Algy Spurge who worked with Friese-Green in The Corridor, Bath, (and who married F-G's niece). They lived at 74 The Broadway, with his father and her mother, and later 3 daughters.
JJG worked from the studio in Alma Road and around Sheppey until he retired aged 70 in 1941

I'm another one of 'Maggies' daughters (so JG is my Great Grandfather) and why did I not know about this site before? Mother? LOL. Just thought I'd mention that the chair in this photo is still in my Mums house, and looks like it's good for another 100yrs at least! This collection is only a drop in the ocean, I must have the most photographed ancestors in history, a wonderful legacy to hand down to MY 3 grandaughters! Thank you for showcasing some of them Trevor! Rosalinde.
