I am the granddaughter of Walter & Barbara Nokes who came to Australia when my Mum Marilyn was 7 years old. We reside in Western Australia and I am in the process of compiling our family tree. Seeing this picture was fantastic. This and other photos in the collection have bought back wonderful memories for my Mum and given me a visual to the stories she has told me. I would love to contact any relative or residents who have stories or photos of the Nokes & Wheatley Families. Vicki White

This was originally Walter Nokes married to Maud who owned the garage and lived above in a flat. Then his son Cyril took over (married to Hilda). Cyril did play in a RAF band and was a superb pianist. Cyril lived on the \Minster Road. His brother Wally managed the True Briton pub for many years but then emigrated to Australia. My mother's father was Maud's brother. Hence I am related . June Simpson (Turvey).

My father worked at Nokes Garage from about 1922 to 1929. I have a reference from Messrs.Nokes Garage dated 05.10.1929. stating "During this period he has had considerable experience of repair work of all descriptions on all popular Cars, Motorcycles and Cycles.

I remember this place very well. It stayed open all the way through at least the 1960's.

If this is Len Nokes' then he was the bandmaster of the Sheppey Boys Silver band of which
my father was a member in the early 50's.
