I always wondered what this was for - a canal leading from nowhere to nowehere. I researched it on line and it is known as the Queenborough Lines. It was a Napoleonic defence work. The earth was dug out and made up the bank you can see on the right. At certain points on the back of this bank you can see the firing step. I also enjoyed boating here in the late 50s.

I paddled a canoe on this stretch this year.Next year, when I've remembered how to keep the damn thing straight like we did in the 50's, I'm going to paddle the full length.:-)
