My grandfather died at sheerness military hospital in November, the month the war ended. He was 44 years old and had spent most of his military time in Sheerness. I think it is so sad that he never made it home .

My grandfather died of Spanish flu in Broadway military hospital: I have just found a photo of it after trying to find out more for a long while. I am so pleased but so sad that he died the month the war ended. He was taken home to his home town in Scotland where he is at rest.

Only just come across this. My wife's grandfather also died of influenza in 1918 (somewhat ironically on November 11th) at Sheerness Military Hospital Extension. The family story (with no corroborating evidence) is that he died on a troopship suggesting that "extension" might be something of a euphamism.

My Grandfather was here in November 1916. He survived the war but from my mother's account he was never well. Are there any records to help discover his case history?

All I can say is that in my day (mid 60s) this was part of the technical school. I think the big windows at bottom left were our gym. We had classes upstaris as well. The main building is noted elsewhere as being a military hospital. It looks to me like this building pre-dates it by some years. I would like to know the history behind that.

Hello Trevor, I can't tell you how happy I was to find your photos of old Sheerness. We visited Sheerness last year from New Zealand on a family history hunt. My grandfather died in 1918 of influenza at Sheerness Military Hospital Extension. As we were wandering aimlessly we stopped to look in a second hand shop window and there in the corner if the window was a framed photo of a house and garden . I ca not remember the caption now. I did not write it down it appears, nor did I try to photograph the pidture but the friendly folk of Sheerness directed us to the site of the hospital and we were very happy to stand on the spot. When I saw the postcard of the Military Hospital 'B Block' I wondered if this might have been the Extension where my grandfather died. If you or any of your 'followers' have any more information on the 'extension' I would be very grateful. May I please nick both of the photos for my Rice family album.
Thank you in anticipation. Annefern
