The 'Water Tower' is actually a military observation tower, possibly to do with the coastal artillery surrounding the Dockyard, but might also have belonged to the Admiralty. Its visible in many pictures on this website and was a landmark locally known as 'The Candlestick'! Not sure when it was dismantled but it was probably prewar.

Definitely before the war! The coal pier was disabled & separated from the shore,I believe, during the war. Also note the water tower mid picture, of which the latest picture I have seen is dated 1931.I lived in Seager Road from 1937(birth) to 1951

It may well be earlier than the 50's Trev. Isn't that the Coal Pier in the background? I thought that was pulled down during the war. Anyone know?
