The tower that got struck by lightning was on the front side of the fairground facing
the coach station, from memory they had clowns painted on them

The man who drove the train around the green hill was my uncle Albert Huggins, The green hill was built to house animals that was part of the zoo when I think Whites owned the site before Hollands into to the fairground.I worked for Maggie Mahoney who owned the rifle range, and was working her stall before Tommy Holland Snr moved to the site and she told me tales of the monkeys and exotic birds that made up the zoo. One of the engines was stored for many years behind the fairground in an old tin tunnel behind the workshop

The capsule thing sticking up above the trees, we used to call "the bomber". Remember the roundabout called "the big fish". Then there was the roller skating rink run by Mrs Perry, the train that ran around the back of the green hill, the big wheel, the dodgems, the whip and of course the smell of candy floss.

Probably taken in the early '60s. It is a good view of the funfair entrance. One of those towers got struck by lightning around this time if I remember right.
