And I think to the right of that shelter was the old Sheppey Light Railway that went to Leysdown. Sadly, it was dismantled when I was very small and I don't remember it operating.

yes i do remember the fire in the waiting room,and you could cross the railway line at the far end with your bike or pram,on your own,cant do that today mr h and safty would go mad.
An interesting picture,as is shows the up(towards sittingbourne) platform incomplete,the old signal box had to be demolished first precast components can be seen stacked up just past the old waiting room.I remember as a kid the old waiting room had a gas fire still that was operational!
