Birding in Northern Thailand

For anyone interested here's an extract from my trip records
Quote
Together with my birding pal David Sanders we made our third birding trip to Thailand. We were taking advantage of our Middle East Islamic Eid Holidays.
This trip we flew to Northern Thailand to Chiang Mai and visited two mountain areas in Doi Ang Kang & Doi Inthanon
The trip was enjoyable with good company, splendid and excellent accommodation and facilities throughout our entire trip, but at the best, due to the bad weather a disappointing birding trip.
Very fortunately we had professional guides with a good sense of humour that kept us smiling throughout the fog and rains.
Planning the trip we were fully aware that October is at the end of the rainy season with the chance of rain, the October daily forecast is assessed at less than 40%. (We experienced on our trip almost 100%)
Plus we did realized that the bird migration season only starts in Mid-November and knowing the best time to bird in these areas are February / March.
In conclusion, whilst it’s very doubtful that I will revisit this area in the near future, I’m very sure in the upcoming dry season it may prove to be one of the most beautiful areas to visit in all of Thailand with lots of marvellous bird species, interesting landscapes and architecture to see and photograph
We were just too early in the birding season and we were very unlucky with the extreme weather conditions that we encountered

My first shots indicate how I needed to dress for most of the trip, the bunch of photographers I'm sitting with were all waiting for a Pygmy Wren-Babbler, some had been there for two days waiting, I got lucky to get a record photo of the small bird, he only showed for a few seconds and was gone, so tiny not much bigger than a chicken's egg. This species only lives at high altitudes.
Unfortunately, due to poor weather, poor light and long distance sightings, I have not too many great photos to show this time
