Definition for: moiré pattern

A radiating curved pattern seen when two geometrically regular patterns (as two halftone screens) are superimposed.

What I find intriguing about this shot is the shear eloquence and complexity of nature. Reduced to mathematics, this effect could be described as(please adjust for lack of subscripts):

TM = T / 2|sin(alpha/2)|phiM = (theta1 + theta2)/2 - 90°
if alpha > 0
(theta1 + theta2)/2 + 90° if alpha T1
theta + 180°
if T2 < T1

But regardless of the orderly beauty in the math, it pales to the grandeur of your picture!
