Umhlanga Reed Dance 2001 - Swaziland

The ceremony of the Umhlanga Reed Dance takes place every year in Swaziland.
Thousands of virgin young girls (in this case virgin means that they haven't yet given birth) meet and, following the tradition, expect to be chosen as wife by the king, currently H.M. Mswati III.
Actually, discouraging the young maidens to have sexual intercourses before and outside the marriage, is also one of its goals.

La cérémonie de la Umhlanga Reed Dance se tient chaque année au Swaziland.
Des milliers de jeunes filles vièrges (dans la mesure où ils n'ont pas encore eu d'enfants) se réunissent et, d'après la tradition, espèrent d'etre choisies par le roi, actuellement S.M. Mswati III, comme épouse.
En réalité on essaye aussi de décourager les jeunes filles d'avoir des rapports sexuels avant et hors du mariage.
