Water Supply Lines

Last night, I heard Claudia yelling my name from our kitchen and when I got there, I saw water flowing from the cabinets under our kitchen sink. After getting my second shower of the day, I finally got the water shut off and discovered that the cold water supply line to the sink had burst. The hose you see on the left is the hot water supply line and the one of the right was from the cold water. You can see where it burst just above the water shut off valve. I installed them both at the same time 9 years ago when we replaced the builder's grade faucet with a Moen with retractable spray head. The hot water line looked like new, but I replaced them both anyway.

Thank God we were home when it happened. It probably wasn't more than 30 seconds before I could get the water shut off, but there was still enough water that it ran through the flooring and dripped into the basement. Whew - dodged a bullet there.

You are very lucky you were home! Could have been a major home disaster! Can you say "new flooring?" Well, now you know every 5 years to at least check them out, right?

Just something you shouldn't have to worry about when you go to the expense of using braided lines.

That dissimilar corrosion is more than just a materials issue. There's something patently different between the two connections. I'm thinking maybe grounding? Could one side of the piping be grounded differently (or not at all) from the other? Since the hot water side goes to the heater and the cold doesn't it may be the cold water piping is ungrounded.
